Green Mud In my Hair!- My First Cassia Treatment

Yesterday I did my first Cassia Treatment.    For those who don't know about Cassia Obovata or Neutral Henna this is a great place to start.  There are also plenty of wonderful you tube videos about them.   Here is one.

So briefly I will tell you what Cassia is, how it is good for your hair, and what it did for my hair.
  • What is Cassia?
    • Cassia obovata is also known as neutral Henna.  It is a plant with a golden-yellow die molecule. Therefore, It's hair dying ability is only seen in gray or blond hair.    It will die gray hair blond and make blond hair intensely golden.
  • How is it good for your hair?
    • Cassia has conditioning capabilities that makes hair healthier and stronger.  It has the ability to relax the curl pattern.  It is also known to help cure scalp problems.  The conditioning benefits of Cassia are similar to that of Henna except it isn't as intese and doesn't last as long.  Therefore, these treatments have to be done more often.
  • My experience with it
    • I used 100mg of Cassia from Mehandi.com.  The powder has a green color and it smells like grass.  I mixed it with warm green tea until i got a consistency of cake batter.   After I shampooed my hair I applied the mixture in sections.  It pretty much looked like I had green mud in my hair. Gross.  So I applied a plastic cap on my head and wrapped a towel around it for extra heat.  I let it sit for an hour and washed it out.  My hair felt a little dry until I conditioned it.
    • My hair felt very different after the treatment.   It appeared to be much stronger.  Actually while I was finger detangling I was amazed to see that I only had a few broken pieces of hair come out.   Also My hair seemed to hang down a little lower than it normally does after I wash it, so I do think it relaxed my curls just a little bit.   I also noticed that my blond streaks of hair in the front of my head are more golden now, which is cool.   I'm not sure about the thickening effect because my hair was already very thick before the treatment, but it is very possible that it plumped up my hair strands.   My hair still smells a little like grass though.
Overall, I am very pleased with the results.  I think I will incorporate this in to my routine.  I am planning on doing this on a monthly basis depending on how long the effects of the treatment lasts.  I will provide an update about how long it lasts in my hair.
