This is my very first post so I am super excited. The purpose of this blog is to inspire african american women to grow healthy natural hair. This is for those of you who are newly natural, or for those who have been natural for a while and just want to have healthy hair. I invite you to take this journey with me.
The state of my hair as it is now...
The current length of my hair is just past my shoulders. I wouldn't exactly call my hair healthy. You see I have been unintentionally neglecting my hair since I have been natural. I have been going through this cycle of growing my hair then realizing how damaged the ends are and cutting it. This process has been repeated so many times. I am at the point now where I need a trim badly because my ends are quite "crispy" as I like to call it. I will be posting a slide show of my hair very soon.
Oh and if your are into hair typing, I have a 4a hair type.
Flat Ironed Hair- sorry for the poor picture quality. I'll do better next time :)
My new Regimen
I shampoo, condition, and detangle once a week
I apply a leave in (I'm still working on finding the perfect leave in for my hair)
I moisturize daily by spritzing my hair with a water and applying a light oil such as coconut oil
I have recently started using the "Baggy Method" for my ends at night (my tutorial below)
I practice protective hair styling. I will post images of different protective hair styles that I now use on a regular basis.
The Baggy Method
- I start by spritzing my ends with water
- Next put hair in a pony tail. You may need to put your hair 2-4 pony tails depending on your length. If you have a shorter hair you can skip this step all together. Avoid using things such as rubber bands that might pull out your hair.
- Apply the product of you choice to your ends. I use raw shea butter and extra virgin olive oil and/or coconut oil. This step is meant to condition your hair and seal the cuticle.
- Braid or twist the ends of your hair if it is long enough
- Apply a plastic cap or plastic baggy to the end of your hair and secure it with a hair tie
- Apply a hair scarf to your entire head or apply your bonnet.
- And thats it. In the morning your ends will be super moisturized.
